Acupuncture is an ancient medical practice that originated in China and dates back 3000-4000 years. In acupuncture treatments, hair-thin needles are gently inserted into different points on the body to correct imbalances. Imbalances within the body are what cause common complaints such as pain, digestion issues, poor sleep, emotional problems, stress and many other disruptions. The ultimate goal of Eastern Medicine and acupuncture therapy is not to “cure” diseases -- rather, it's used to help bring the body back to a healthy and balanced state. When healthy and balanced, the body’s natural defenses can properly work to heal the disruption, rid the body of pain and/or disease, as well as prevent further disease or damage.

While it is still unknown exactly how acupuncture works, there are many theories and available avenues of acupuncture information. Here is a video of one practitioner’s explanation on how acupuncture works.
